EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE WITH MATRIX BENDING CELLS

The MATRIX bending cells are machines which are today in great demand on the market, designed to take up, fold and deposit profiles in metal sheeting; all, completely automatically. Thanks also to the use of laser cutting technology, these machines today make possible the creation of items which was unthinkable until a few years ago. These are heavy units, up to 250 kg, with considerable thicknesses handled between the cut and folding. Operations which, before robotic folding, were carried out using welding or other complex means. Using robotic press brakes is to guarantee the quality of the finished product, substantial reduction in costs, and the safeguarding of health.

STANDARD CONFIGURATION AND POINTS OF STRENGTH

In the standard configuration, the machine is made up of three main groups:

  • Movement with the folding press and the Cartesian robot
  • Management through the use of programming with simple and intuitive software
  • Completion which involves a loader, load platform, thickness measurer, tilting unit and gripper

Amongst the main points of strength of the robotic VICLA® MATRIX, there is the high dependability of the electronics, the repeatability of positioning thanks to the coupling and gearing with automatic play recovery, the reduced push force against the rear locators for aligning the sheet in order not to compromise the machine over time, the robot’s wrist and the quill drive, allowing air intake, vacuum and electrical signals to pass to the gripper without risks of slicing the same by the metal sheet under movement. The robot arm always remains horizontal, allowing the piece to be positioned in the matrix, supporting it either from above or below without ever sustaining interference with the piece itself. The linear axes allow for positioning the MATRIX arm always in the same manner, both in front of all the folding stations as well as on all the pallets, simplifying its management. The horizontal runway beam is elevated from a height of 2300 mm to a height of 2950 mm, allowing for the passage of medium load lifting trolleys. The beam thus appears “transparent” with regard to the load, and in no way limits manual use.

THE BRAIN CONTROLLING EVERYTHING

The programming software uses the typical programming structure for MATRIX bending robots, with the macro-instruction notes which allow for the management of uplifting the sheet, bending with automatic follow-up (patented) and depositing onto a pallet in a simple and effective manner. To this is added, the new mode of managing the work space into “zones”, which ultimately simplifies the use of the robot.

DEVICES FOR INTERFACING WITH THE OPERATOR

Two operator terminals are supplied for controlling the robot, the touch screen and the movement joystick. Using the first, with virtual keys on the screen, all the normal operations for entering parameters may be carried out, the generation of programmes and management of the archive for programmes created, as well as the maintenance functions. Using the second, it is possible to move the robot in an intuitive manner over several axes simultaneously with progressive adjustment to the speed, in order to have the required sensitivity over fine positioning of the piece without losing necessary speed during coarse transits. Furthermore, the movement joystick also has immediately accessible buttons which permit the insertion of the position reached directly into the active programme list, without requiring further actions. Thanks to this new programming device, together with the simplified zoned programming, building up programmes for bending has reached a level of speed and simplicity which is hard to improve upon.

INTERFACING WITH THE PRESS

MATRIX can interface with any other of our folding presses, maintaining the manual folding characteristics unaltered, even after installation of the robot. The press remains at pavement level and its use in manual is allowed for with safety measures supplied as standard equipment. Various sensors are mounted on the press for monitoring the upper table movement and the presence of metal sheets, in position for the fold against the locators. All the sensors are connected to an intelligent unit which communicates with the robot to provide all the necessary data for carrying out the various functions in automatic such as, for example, the search for locators, the fold with or without follow-up and table opening, with coordinated movement of the robot on rising from the table for disengagement of the piece from the folders, with “skids”.
